Padi Self Reliant Diver Course

The Padi Self Reliant course is the only course that gives you the skills and the mindset to dive without a buddy.
It is great course for any diver who has a need or wish to dive without a buddy.
Photographers will find this useful, as will divers who travel without a regular buddy.
This is also a great course if you are considering becoming a dive professional.

Study session, 4 dives.
Padi distinctive specialty course, counts towards MSD.

Course Content

Why we use the buddy system and why Solo Diving is very special and requires a defined skillset.
The mental discipline, attitudes and aptitudes to engage in solo diving.
Safety equipment including DSMB's, redundant air sources and signalling equipment.
The importance of specific dive planning.
Management of independent diving problems and emergencies.
SAC rate, gas planning and management.

More Detail

Study manual - This covers the risk factors of solo diving, why we solo dive, when we should not solo dive and the extra equipment and dive planning required when going solo.

Theory Session -We look at risk management, equipment requirements, dive planning, gas planning and lots more.

Shallow water dive - Depending on your skill level we may start with a shallow water dive.

3 or 4 boat dives - During these dives we will cover neccesary skills, asessing your skill set and capabilities. The last dive will be a completely solo dive for you.

What you need to know

Mimimum of Advanced Open Water certification required. (Does not need to be "Padi").
Minimum of 100 logged dives.
You need to have excellent basic dive skills and be willing to follow strict safety protocols.
You will need a full set of personal dive gear plus safety equipment for this course.
The loan of extra gear, spare gear, plus a Pony bottle with regs is included but you need to own and bring all the gear you normally dive with plus the required safety equipment for this course.

Performance Based Learning

Timing- The course moves at your pace. We spend plenty of time to develop new skills.

Standards - This course is as much about developing a safety conscious mindset as it is about new skills.
This course is not just about "passing the skills test", you will be required to demonstrate that you have the correct "mindset" for solo diving.
This course takes 2 days to complete. This timing and the costing presumes that you have excellent basic skills. If additional training time is required it can be provided at extra cost.
